A Class W168 MAFS replacement unit

The aim of this petition is to have Continental and Mercedes Benz change their policy regarding the availabilty
in the aftermarket of the A Class w168 (petrol) VDO MSM ECU MAFS spare part with P/N "VDO 93 084 001" and "Temic 311 874".
Here is a picture of a faulty part which was desoldered from the logic board: http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/9425/vdo93084001.jpg
This part is made unavailable by both Mercedes Benz and Continental Corporation.
The MAFS (Mass Air Flow Sensor) is a vital sensor for the correct operation of the w168 engine.
The MAFS unit in the w168 ECU is soldered directly to the ECU logic board.
If the part fails the policy is to replace the entire ECU at a cost of 1600 euros (last I heard from MB).
However this part is easily replaceable by desoldering it from the ECU logic board and soldering a new one.
There are many MAFS which are sold apart from the ECU for most modern vehicles so it seems really unjustifiable
of Continental and Mercedes Benz to deny the availability of this piece in the market as a spare part.
The w168 is an old car with a resale market value near to zero so a price of 1600 euros on a repair which should cost 150
makes the repair non-economic.
To add insult to injury the replacement of the entire ECU leaves the owner with the possibility of facing a new faulty MAFS
after some time therefore leading to the need for another costly ECU replacement.
