The following persons wish to make known their anger and opposition at SB 1336, a bill that would allow dental surgeons to perform elective plastic surgery procedures.
The passage of SB 1336 will allow dental surgeons in CA to be issued a permit to practice elective plastic surgery procedures such as facelifts, eyelid lifts, nose jobs, and other procedures to the face and neck. Any dentist that has completed a residency program in oral and maxillofacial surgery, and paid a mere $150 fee, may obtain a permit.
Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a specialty of DENTISTRY. Dental surgeons are regulated by state DENTAL boards rather than MEDICAL boards.
If you want a facelift, you should see a board-certified plastic surgeon. If you have a heart attack, you'll want to see a cardiologist. This same principle applies to dental surgeons. I would visit my oral surgeon, for example, to have my wisdom teeth removed, but NOT to have an elective cosmetic plastic surgery procedure. Would you visit your dental surgeon for a facelift? My brother is an Oral Surgeon and he is also a physician...in fact he graduated from a top 10 medical school. As I recall he went to school for 6 or 7 years AFTER dental school. This just seems to me like plastic surgeons trying to protect their turf...wh

Instead of reducing the requierments to allow a person to permanently alter someone elses appearance you should find ways of making it STRICTER! As it is we have supposedly well trained plastic surgeons disfiguring person after person AFTER PERSON!
