We, the parents, and caregivers of disabled and/or terminally ill children are appalled by the fact that we cannot get life insurance for our children. In the rare case that we are offered a life insurance policy for our child, it is so expensive that we cannot even afford it. This puts a stressful financial burden on every family with a disabled and/or terminally ill child. We must save every bit of money we can to bury our child. Some families don't have the money to save and must take out a loan just to bury their child, and the ones who can't get a loan often can't have a memorial service or even purchase a headstone for the childs grave. Imagine sitting by and watching helplessly as your child suffers and to watch your child die. Add the stress and worry that comes from not having life insurance and it is devastating, financially and emotionally.
We are asking and pleading for action to be taken to require insurance companies to offer affordable life insurance policies for terminally ill and/or disabled children. Insurance companies make huge profits as it is on policies that are paid on for so many years. They can afford to provide coverage to these children. Insurance companies are in the business to make money, not to actually help people. This needs to change.
Look at your children and imagine them passing and you not being able to bury them. This happens to families everyday. Funeral costs are outrageous and without life insurance coverage for these children, it will continue to happen.
