Dear Governor Pataki,
We, the Undersigned, respectfully request that you amend Bill S07616 to exclude any cat recognized as a domestic cat breed by an international cat association. Despite the fact that they are thus recognized as domestic breeds, Bengal, Chausie, Savannah, and Safari cats fall under the scope of this bill.
The numerous people who own these beautiful, loving domestic pets now face the additional expense of registering them with the state of New York, investing in what the state considers "proper" housing (fencing, cages, and other structures that are neither suitable nor humane for domestic household pets), and submitting to yearly visits by local authorities. This costs both your state and your taxpayers a tremendous amount of money and your state considerable manpower and man hours that would be better spent elsewhere. Any unregistered pets of this breed that are found will be euthanized, an additional unnecessary and inhumane expense to both the people and the State.
We understand the need for the protection (of both people and animals) where certain exotic and wild animals are concerned. However, harmless, loving domestic household pet breeds who pose absolutely no threat should be excluded, freeing both the state and the people to direct their finances and energies where they're really needed.
