An Act To Provide for the Safe Care and Treatment of Animals

Anyone can call him or herself a veterinary technician?
Technicians are not licensed or regulated by the state, nor are
they required to be educated in veterinary technology?
Veterinarians can hire uneducated, untrained individuals to treat
and care for your pet?
Teenagers could be anesthetizing and monitoring your pet under
anesthesia, performing dentistry and diagnostic laboratory tests,
taking radiographs, placing catheters and giving injections,
filling prescriptions and medicating your pet -
and you wouldnt have any idea this was happening!
You could be paying veterinary hospitals the exact same price to
spay your dog and while clinic A could have an educated, certified
veterinary technician, clinic B could have someone with no training,
just hired a week ago.
Outraged? You should be!
Veterinary technicians are on the front line of our pet's care
administering drugs, giving injections, calculating drug dosages-
performing procedures that have a critical impact on our pets
health.
Currently veterinary technicians are asked to act as laboratory
techs, radiology techs, surgery techs, dental hygienists and
anesthesia techs, as well as client educators.
With an animal, small mistakes can have fatal results. We do not
doubt that most people get into the practice because they love
and have an affinity for animals, but when it comes to medical
treatment, love is simply not enough.
That's why we are asking you to join the Massachusetts Veterinary
Technician Association in fighting for Massachusetts Bill # 3589
"An Act to Provide for the Safe Care and Treatment of Animals"
in an effort to educate, certify, and license veterinary technicians
in Massachusetts.
