Axis of Friendship: Peace between Iran and U.S.

We, the undersigned, are members of the international Axis of Friendship, which emerged on September 12, 2001, when around the world many, including Iranians, reached out to the people of the U.S. in compassion and sorrow for the tragedy of 9/11.
Seizing 9/11 as a pretext for war, the Bush administration squandered the goodwill that so many offered to Americans after the attack on the World Trade Towers and acted in violation of international laws, forfeiting any possibility for an effective strategy to combat global terrorism.
In remembering September 12, we cannot sit by and watch Iran and the United States attempt to destroy each other. There is nothing inevitable about war between our two countries, and a war would be stupid, senseless, tragicand expensive. Both sides will sustain terrible losses from which neither will recover. As the crisis intensifies, so does the urgency of preventing another illegal and immoral war. Neither Iranians nor Americans welcome the prospect of burying our children because our leaders lack the imagination and courage to pursue peace.
We ask the leaders of the U.S. not to bomb or provoke a war with Iran. We urge that you seek international coalitions to fight terrorism, as well as nonviolent, diplomatic means of settling conflict, stopping nuclear proliferation, and eliminating weapons of mass destruction.
We urge you to do everything in your power to prevent war.
