We, the undersigned, deeply desire that Maplewood be as safe as possible for pededstrians and motorists alike. To this end we respectfully request--from our elected officials and the Maplewood Police Department--the creation and implementation of an accountable traffic safety plan that includes strict, systematic, regular enforcement of traffic laws, with special attention paid to those roads within a one or two block area surrounding schools of any kind, particularly during the times when children are traveling to and from school. In addition we would like to see the promotion of safe driving behavior through public education and information, review of speed limits and signage, and possible deployment of speed bumps on roads near schools. It is widely observed that the problem of speeding in Maplewood is pervasive, rampant and unchecked on all roads, be they major thoroughfares or short streets, and we are seriously concerned for the safety of the citizens of Maplewood, but particularly for the safety of our children.

I live on a street that people use to avoid a light at Parker Ave and Boyden Ave. They speed up the hill from Boyden, without regard for what they might find at the top, like our kids!!
