Dear Honorable Sir or Madam:
Please act vigorously to erase any links between steroids and baseball. Steroids are very dangerous and they are illegal. As a devoted baseball fan, I am very upset at revelations of alleged steroid use by Major League Baseball players.
The new MLB drug testing policy is not strong enough, and it does nothing to address past use of steroids. I am concerned about news reports of increasing numbers of children using steroids.
According to medical studies, steroids can cause kidney failure, cancer, growth defects, liver failure, heart disease, depression, aggressive behavior, mood swings, impotence, hair loss, development of secondary sex characteristics and other as-yet unknown side effects. Steroid use has been linked to the suicides of high school and college athletes.
To preserve the integrity of our national pastime and to protect our children, please do everything in your power to:
1. Implement mandatory drug testing according to Olympic standards.
2. Release all results from past drug tests baseball fans deserve the truth.
3. Make sure record books never have asterisks.
4. Require credible outreach by Major League Baseball representatives to Little Leaguers about the dangers of steroids.
