Dear Mr President
It might have come to your Excellencies attention that during last few days, hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis, who constitute almost half of Irans` population of seventy million, have demonstrated against the ayatollahs` Islamic Government of Iran, in many towns and cities across southern Azerbaijan.
Although the public conception of Azerbaijan is only the Republic of Azerbaijan with eight million people, the fact is that, almost thirty five million Azerbaijanis live in Iran, under the iron fist of her ruthless and terrorist government.
Azerbaijanis are Turkic people who have ruled Iran for over a thousand years until the beginning of the twentieth century. They are culturally, historically and racially different from the ruling Fars population of Iran.
Throughout twentieth century, Azerbaijanis have struggled to establish democratic governments in Iran. One of their greatest civil movements resulted in the establishment of Iran s` first western style parliamentary system with constitutional monarchy which triumphed in early 20th century. Sadly, Irans` fragile democracy was misused by her corrupt monarchs and most tragically, terminated by the present evil government of Iran.
Azerbaijanis today, are more concerned about Irans nuclear ambitions than the rest of the world. They are certain that the Iranian Government will not hesitate to use such a weapon of mass destruction against any opposition especially against Azerbaijanis, as they are most threatened by them.
Almost 70\% of Tehrans population are Azerbaijanis who can bring the Islamic government to its` knees with mass demonstrations and even passive resistance.
Mr President, today the freedom loving people of the world, truly appreciate your support for human rights and democracy in countries which have become victims for tyrants, terrorists and mass murderers
Azerbaijanis started their opposition to the present regime of Iran, soon after the so called Islamic revolution. Undoubtedly, with almost 35 million population, they are a force to be reckoned with within Iran and the neighbouring countries.
Our only television station, GunAz TV, is based in Chicago and organised by its freedom loving coordinator, Mr. Ahmad Obali.
Only a few days ago, ayatollah Khamenei, the Spiritual Leader of Iran, openly blamed GunAz TV and Mr Obali for opposing the Iranian Government. This is very threatening, as it is well known that when his infamous predecessor, Ayatollah Khomeini made such threats, what happened to his opponents. Salman Rushdie`s case was a prime example
Mr President, we the undersigned, respectfully request your Excellency to provide the necessary support to be made available to Mr Obali and his colleagues who have played the most vital role in preparing the people for the present mass movement for democracy and freedom.
