We the students of Easton Area High School are deeply concerned with the decision of a school dress code with uniforms being made in the near future. Having read in the local newspaper that the school is trying to ban t-shirts, jeans, flip-flops,sweatshirts/hoodies, sweatpants, and denim skirts we have become deeply concerned. As this is a public school we believe that we should be able to dress the way we like while still adhereing to the current dress code. This is America all of us have grown up being encouraged to become our person and being unconfromists. Many of the students at Easton Area High School follow this dress code and feel that is wrong for the school to punish us as well. The students at Easton Area High School are unique and wonderful individuals. As stated in the mission statement of Easton Area High School "The Easton Area School District respects the diversity of its student population..." granted this is only a part of the whole statement the school district states that it respects the DIVERSITY of its students. Now we ask you how can this be acheieved when we all wear the same things(i.e., polo shirts and khiki pants with sneakers)? This takes away our DIVERSITY which is exactly the ditrict states it is trying to protect. All we, the students, want is the current dress code to be kept and these extremes of limiting everything we all already have in our closets be gotten rid of. Through this petition we wish for the school board to hear what the majority of the students who don't cause trouble and dress appropriately have to say. Thank you for your time and contributing to our cause.
