Right now, Canadian Friends of Burma, US Campaign for Burma, UK Campaign for Burma, Amnesty International, and Voices of Burma are all helping to co-ordinate worldwide demonstration of solidarity with the monks, nuns, students and civilians protesting in Burma (Myanmar). It is also a protest against the Chinese and Russian decision to veto a UN security council STATEMENT of condemnation.

A lot of this is being co-ordinated via Facebook, in the group Support the Monks protest in Burma, where we have ranking members of the above organizations. The group's link is:

We sincerely believe that these worldwide demonstrations will have the effect of:
i) Raising awareness about the atrocities being committed (we are now getting reports from defecting military officers that deaths are in the thousands,
ii) Such global demonstration of solidarity is VERY encouraging to the people of Burma (with whom we have connections),
iii) Political pressure will be turned up on national governments and the Chinese government (many protests will include Chinese embassies and consulates).

As students represented the majority of those killed in 1988, and are certainly among the dead in these past days, we feel it is the duty of students worldwide to take a stand against the actions taken by the Burmese military Junta.
