I would like to express our concern in regards to the current treatment of the parents Jenifer Morrison and Jayden Lavender and more importantly the treatment of their newborn infant.
Most importantly and concerning though is that the mother has supposedly not been able to continue the breast-feeding and care of her child.
This is not only an abuse of her rights as a mother it is a more damaging abuse of the infant child in this case.
We implore that the infants current needs be put at the centre of any discussion and decision made for the short term care of this child.
The short term consequences of separation of mother and child is commonly known with issues of attachment difficulty and postpartum depression.
The long term consequences of separation of mother and child commonly result in a higher incidence of mental illness including depression, anxiety and post traumatic stress disorder.
This is a throwback to the fored adoption era, he we not learnt anything in the last 45 - 60 years?
They need support to kepp them together, not red tape and burocracy to tear them apart.
