Improve Las Palmas dog park

IMPROVE LAS PALMAS DOG PARK IN SUNNYVALE

This petition is to urge you to please improve the Las Palmas park and dog park. In the park's current state, people do not want to go there. The park needs to be improved to make it a better experience for dogs and dog owners alike.

I. Cover the entire dog park in grass.
The sand and gravel in the park is dirty and dangerous. The sand and gravel leaves dogs dirty. If you use the water hose in the exit area, a dog owner would now have a wet and still dirty dog. The gravel is also dangerous. When the dogs are running around, they kick up gravel and dust, and it can get in both the dogs' and owners' eyes, causing sight damage. Also, when the dogs (and people too!) are running around, it is easy to slip and fall in the gravel and sand. On some days, more dogs and owners hang around outside the fenced in dog park area than inside it. This could be because the dogs prefer the shade and grassy areas of the rest of the park (outside the dog park fenced in area).

II. Install waste bag disposal dispensers around the park--both inside and outside the dog park area.
The "take a bag, leave a bag" system used inside the dog park area isn't very good. It is only inside the dog park fenced in area. So if a dog defecates before reaching the fenced in dog park area (perhaps while walking from the parking lot to the dog park area), then how should the owner pick it up if he/she does not have a bag? That means the owner has to walk all the way over to the fenced in dog park area, pick up a bag, walk back to the spot in the regular park, pick up the waste, and walk all the way back to the dog park fenced in area. It would be nice if waste bag disposal dispensers would be installed around the main area of the park so the owner doesn't have to go through this huge hassle. Sometimes (in high traffic times), there are no bags in the "take a bag, leave a bag" boxes.

III. Remove the Rubbermaid-style trashes and replace them with trashes with revolving lids.
Once the waste has been picked up inside the dog park area, the owner is then susceptible to more germs and bacterias. This is because the owner has to first lift the lid on the trash before he/she is able to throw away the bag or other waste. By using revoling lid trashes instead, dog owners will then be less susceptible to germs and bacteria by not having to even touch the trash to dispose of the dog waste bag.

IV. Assign a regular employee to clean and maintain both the Las Palmas park and dog park.
Sunnyvale Parks and Recs should assign an employee and a weekly day/time for maintenance and to make these improvements at Las Palmas dog park.
