The world stops dead on March 17th for St. Patrick's Day. It seems that everyone flocks to their local hostelry to drink themselves stupid and act "Oirish".
Yet, when April 23rd arrives, there is nothing. The streets of England are silent.
We, Sam Heywood and Greenie from 96.9 Viking FM, think this is tragic and petition to do something about it.
We want St. George's Day to be as much a part of the social life of our country as St. Patrick's Day is.
Furthermore, following the lead of the Republic of Ireland, we petition for St. George's Day, April 23rd, the day we celebrate the Patron Saint of England, to become a national holiday.
