Microsoft Owes Vista Owners a Free Replacement that Works -

Windows Vista is crap, and computer users know it. But Microsoft figures that it owns us forever as customers, and that we have no real choice but to use whatever Windows version it shoves out the door. Its response to the Vista disaster has been to publicly ignore it and try to focus our attention on Vistas successor: Windows 7. Microsoft assumes that well be eager to buy it, seeing it as our salvation from Vista, which well soon forget. They expect that, in the end, we will pay twice to get one acceptable operating system.

Microsoft arrogantly assumes it is too big to ever die. But 65 million years ago dinosaurs ruled the earth--then an asteroid wiped them out. Users have real alternatives to Windows these days, and unless Microsoft shows some remorse and tries to fix the mess it made, Vista could be the asteroid that Microsoft hurled at itself.

We the undersigned feel that Microsoft needs to take three serious measures to regain our confidence:

(1) Apologize to us for Vista.
(2) Make certain that Windows 7 is well-designed and well-tested, not just lipstick on the Vista pig. (There are signs that Microsoft has learned nothing from the Vista debacle. See The Big Windows Lie at http://blogs.computerworld.com/the_big_windows_7_lie)
(3) Give every legal purchaser of Vista a free copy of the most feature-rich version of Windows 7.

Otherwise we intend for Vista to be the last Microsoft operating system we will ever buy.
