We, the undersigned call upon VIHA administration to immediately stop the placement of adult patients on the Pediatric ward at NRGH. Our children have a right to a protected, safe place in our hospital. Placing adults on the Pediatric ward compromises the care of the children. The recent case of C. difficile infection in an adult admitted to the pediatric ward highlights one of many issues that place our children at risk. Adult overcapacity at NRGH is a chronic problem and placing adults on the children's ward does not manage this issue and compromises the care of both the adults and the children. We urge VIHA to look at constructive ways to manage the chronic adult overcapacity at NRGH, which is anticipated to get worse. Taking beds from children is an unacceptable solution and we want the pediatric ward, designed and staffed specifically for children, to be protected space for children only.
