Nevadans Against Pay Reductions and Losing Furloughs

Whether it is health insurance premiums, retirement contributions or wages, State of Nevada employees are taking a punch from all angles. In addition to new proposals that negatively impact our benefits, one is on the table to reduce our pay 5\%, and terminate furloughs. What this means for us and our families is:
A loss of furloughs, which was a concession for a 4.62\% pay reduction in 2009.
An additional 0.38\% pay reduction.
A permanent 5\% pay reduction.
If passed this will also be harmful to the Nevada economy, especially in Carson City, where a greater proportion of the population is employed by the state.
Naturally nobody wanted to take the pay cut implemented in July 2009. However, the Nevada Legislature compromised, and furloughs were provided in return. Some have expressed concern that furloughs have decreased efficiency. Although this may apply in some instances, it may be an excuse in others.
As State of Nevada employees and Nevada taxpayers, we need to have a voice. Therefore, if you acknowledge Nevada is in a budget crisis, but you respectfully object to the proposal to reduce our pay AND terminate furloughs, then please add your name to this petition. You will have the option to show your place of employment in this petition (i.e. Health & Human Services). For verification purposes, this website requires you to provide your email address, but you can choose to hide it from view.
Please forward the link to this petition to State of Nevada employees, as well as family and friends. Share it through email and other mediums, such as Facebook. We need to gather as many names (signatures) as possible to leave an impression on the Nevada Legislature. The deadline for adding names to this petition is March 31, 2011, although earlier results may be provided to the Nevada Legislature online. The final results will be provided to the Nevada Legislature online and in hardcopy, by April 4, 2011.
