No Exams on Inauguration Day

We understand that canceling classes for elementary and middle school students, who are already recognizing the day with special activities in school, will cause problems for parents in terms of child care.
Also, extending the school calendar, if all of the contingency days are used, is extremely expensive, with costs adding up to $600,000. In this time of economic recession and budget shortfalls, fiscal responsibility is necessary.
We therefore believe that high school exams should be postponed so that students and staff are free on January 20th, 2009 to celebrate the historic inauguration of the first African-American President, Barack Obama.
