Our Vote, Our Voice

Democrats across the nation are still healing from the sense of alienation and disenfranchisement at the hands of American electoral politics. We saw our majority vote accomplish nothing in the Presidential election of 2000. To have our voice silenced by the workings of the American electoral system was painful. To have our voice silenced by only a handful of members of our very own party is nothing less than a betrayal.

Our votes are our only voice. This is a call to Democrats to stand by our voice. To refuse to allow our voice to be silenced by the very own party to which we have pledged our support.

The Democratic Presidential nomination may very well be decided by a handful of superdelegates who are not bound by the popular vote. This petition constitutes a message to those delegates. The message is, do not silence our voice. Stand for the integrity of the party and American democracy, and abide by the popular vote.

This petition is also a pledge, a pledge to each other and a pledge to honor our voice. This is a pledge that informs the Democratic Party that it will no longer have our support in the Presidential election in 2008 if our voice is not honored.
