Government of Canada,
Office of the Prime Minister,

Ottawa, Ontario,

Dear Prime Minister:
We, the undersigned Canadians declare that we are adamantly opposed to Bill C-38 – the infamous omnibus budget bill your government rammed through last summer and Bill C-45 – the second omnibus bill, deceptively called the ‘Jobs and Growth Act’. It cuts critical public sector jobs, guts environmental protections, undermines aboriginal rights, jeopardizes food safety and numerous other negative changes to Canada’s legal protections, without consultation with First Nations or other Canadians. We demand the repeal of Bills C-38 and C-45!
Our primary objections to Bill C-38 include the following:
· Food and Drug Act
· The Coastal Trading Act
· Employment Insurance Act
· Environmental Protection Act
· Fair Wages and Hours of Labour Act (repealed)
· Seeds Act
· Plant Breeders Rights
· Employment Equity Act
Our primary objections to Bill C-45 include the following:
· Bill C-45 Jobs and Growth;
· Bill S-2 Matrimonial Interests of Rights Act
· Bill S-207 Act to amend Interpretation Act
· Bill S-212 First Nations Self-government Recognition Bill and First
Nations Property Ownership Act
· Bill S-8 Safe Drinking Water Act for First Nations
· Bill C-428 Indian Act amendment and Replacement Act
· Bill C-27 First Nations Transparency Act
Navigation Protection Act (formerly Navigable Waters Act)
Canadian Environmental Assessment Act
Fisheries Act
The changes to the various pieces of legislation are unconstitutional. They contravene Article 18, 19 and 20 of the UN Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. We demand the repeal of all Bills 38 and 45 and a return to transparent and democratic processes and the rule of law in all Canadian government business.
