Mississauga Festival Choir is a vibrant and valued community asset dedicated to excellence in choral performance. Because of budget restrictions, the City of Mississauga has informed the choir of its intention to eliminate 100% of the City's financial support for the choir. By signing this petition, you confirm your support for the choir and your desire to have the City reinstate funding.
The reinstated funding will serve as interim financing while the choir finalizes and executes a plan to revitalize the choir and expand existing fundraising and partnership efforts.
Mississauga Festival Choir is a non-auditioned community choir founded in 1984 to celebrate the City of Mississauga's 10th anniversary. The choir performs a wide variety of music for all ages. MFC also contributes to the community through music education, leadership opportunities for youth and an annual massed choir concert in aid of a local charity.
Though MFC depends on the city's annual financial support, the choir has a successful fundraising/partnership group that raises money from the corporate sector and individual donations to supplement income from ticket sales and City funding. MFC'S board of directors is currently developing a plan to revitalize the choir and expand the existing fundraising and partnership efforts. These plans will be finalized and executed over the coming year.
We, the undersigned, citizens of Mississauga, request that the City of Mississauga reinstate 2012 funding to the Mississauga Festival Choir on an interim basis.
