Totally blind citizens of the United States face an obvious obstacle, but blindness should not be a factor in the employability of any qualified worker in the world's most free nation. Technology should be a resource that opens the doors for the blind, because the ability is there to do so. However, many companies are using computer systems that are built with no consideration of a potentially blind worker. When being interviewed by one company this fall, I personally was told that the company knew they were not accessible for a totally blind person, even though the company knew this fact for 18 months. By law, companies are supposed to grant equal access to any disabled person, including in the use of computer systems necessary to perform all aspects of work. Please sign this petition to send a message to all Federal and state leaders, that makes it a crime to deny a blind person employment, simply because a company knowingly or unknowingly is using computer technology that is not compliant with all Federal laws regarding accessibility to computer and internet systems for the disabled. Please tell your leaders that perfectly qualified people are systematically being discriminated against, simply because companies are not doing what they legally should in the area of technology access. If you believe in the true merit of equal employment opportunity for all, please join in signing this important document.
