We, the undersigned, ask Camosun College, of Victoria, British Columbia, to create a safe environment for all students regardless of Sexual Orientation or Gender Identity.
We request the following:
1. The adoption of 'Safe Space' policy by Camosun College.
2. Mandatory 'Safe Space' training, including aspects of gender indenties, for all Faculty, Staff and Management Employees at Camosun College.
3. Immediate conversion of at least two current restrooms, per campus, from gender specific to gender neutral and for those restrooms to be located in a safe and highly visible areas, and be posted with the symbol of gender inclusiveness (a three pronged version of the venus and mars symbols with the addition of a third prong for trans-persons).
4. All future construction, including those currently in progress include gender neutral restrooms.
5. All future print material directed at students, such as brochures, pamphlets, and catalogs have a 'Safe Space' symbol within the document. Also, the Camosun website contain the 'Safe Space' policy, along with methods to report and resolve violations. Furthermore, Camosun website also include a 'Safe Sapce' symbol on the college Home page.
6. A system to report and resolve violations, and consequential actions to be taken, be developed in conduction with the adoption of 'Safe Space' policy and that student, staff, management, and faculty be held accountable for violations of 'Safe Space.'
7. That the Camosun Pride Director, and the Camosun Ombudsman be alerted to violations and working with Camosun College review the 'Safe Space' policies and how to prevent further violations on a case by case basis.
8. The the 'Safe Space' symbol (an inverted triangle within a purple ring) be posted at every entrance/exit to all Camosun College properties, and also, posted at every entrance/exit to every Camosun College building.
