Return Patrick Humphrey to LACHSA

For the past four years, the L.A. County High School for the Arts has been graced with the privilege of the enrollment of one particular student who has, in his academic and artistic studies, gone above and beyond the call of duty. This man has been awarded Theatre Student of the Year for three consecutive years (A feat not easily, or ever before accomplished). His name is Patrick Humphrey, and by a cruel twist of fate (be it politically motivated or otherwise) he has been expelled from the school he fought so hard to attend. No other student at LACHSA has the professionalism, brilliant intellect, and social grace of Mr. Humphrey, and to imagine a school devoid of this bright young man is impossible. LACHSA is not LACHSA without Patrick Humphrey.

The grounds for his expulsion were unjust. He was brought up on charges of possession of a deadly weapon. Patrick is a known fanatic of medieval and obscure ornamental weaponry, and the "Deadly Weapon" he has been charged with carrying was one single ninja star- an impractical weapon to say the least, even for one trained to use it. Patrick would never in his life use such an object for ANY malicious action. The only reason he was carrying it in the first place was that it was given to him as a gift, and he simply forgot to remove it from his backpack. Patrick has no history, EVER, of any kind of disciplinary offense and would NEVER harm a fellow LACHSA student, least of all on campus.

If you support Patrick, and would like nothing better than to see him returned to LACHSA to be with his peers and mentors, please sign this petition.

194. Denise H | As Patrick's godmother, I know it to be true that this young man would never purposely hurt another living thing, much less a human being, and especially a fellow student. I am appalled that this one incident, although serious in nature is causing the sch

193. Drew W | Come on! This is rediculous. When will schools learn that they must treat students as individuals, and not paint with broad strokes. 5 minutes with Patrick and you know him to be a great kid full of love in his heart, and a zest for life. He is not a crim

192. Lisa L | I would think expulsion would only be used when no other option will do. If a student is without regret, is clearly a threat to others or themselves, demonstrates an amoral disinterested attitude, has multiple offenses, etc., dismissal would be appropriat
