Save Rev. H.J. MacDonald Elementary School

The Strait Regional School is reviewing the school for closure. In the Education Act it states that school boards must look to cut administration costs before closing a school. This board has not! Its administration is growing with a declining enrollement. By signing this petition you will be supporting Rev. H.J. MacDonald Elementary School to remain open. Rev. H.J. MacDonald Elementary is an important part of the Heatherton community. However, it is more important to the students. Students at this school have consistently made higher the average grades compared to peers. The facility does not need any renovations. It is beyond valuable to the students. In the short term the board believes it will be saving money. In the long term it is going to cost us tax payers even more money, by up keep or demolish of the school, along with having to pay more for the P3 leased schools. It is our belief the students of Rev H.J. MacDonald should have all avenues looked at before the closure of their school. Although on January 21, 2011 the Minister of Education is quoted in the Chronicle Herald as having said, "[t]his government is going to make sure that we have our community schools open for our students,"
