Rider Park is a treasure selflessly donated to the people of Lycoming County by the late Thomas J. Rider. This park has been in existence for over twenty years. It is used by schools to educate children, colleges to demonstrate biodiversity, mountain bikers, hikers, trail runners, cross country skiers, birders, gardeners, and many other clubs, organizations and individuals. Rider Parks 868 acres of beautiful vistas, diverse forests, and meadows are now threatened by development from the gas companies.
The current owner of Rider Park is the First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania (FCFPA). They are entrusted with the stewardship of this much loved and utilized land within our community. We, the Friends of Rider Park ask the Foundation to honor the public trust you hold and to exercise wisdom and concern for future generations as you consider the impact your decisions will have on so many. Please do not lease Rider Park for gas drilling!
We, the Friends of Rider Park, implore FCFPA to adhere to the following:
No gas drilling in Rider Park
Do not allow surface or subsurface activity of any kind within the boundaries of Rider Park
Act as stewards of this land and take measures to protect it for future generations
Do not set a precedent by leasing a community park to the gas companies
Maintain the original intent of Tom Rider. Gas drilling anywhere in Rider Park is incompatible with its use as a recreational area
