Alan Birchenall
Born 22 August 1945 in East Ham, is a retired English footballer who played during the 1960s and 1970s, given the Honorary Freedom of Leicester in 2009.
Alan, more commonly know as ‘The Birch’ is the Club Coordinator at The Walkers Stadium where he has enjoyed an association with Leicester City for over 3 decades. Over this period he has raised in excess of £600,000 for local charities through his end of season run around the pitch, for which he was awarded an MBE in 2003.
Born in East London, Alan made Leicestershire his home when he became the club’s public relations officer over 25 years ago. During that time he has established an excellent rapport with the Leicester public and has come to be looked upon as Mr Leicester City.
On the 22 August 2010, Alan will reach the ripe Old Age of 65.
This may be his last day as the "Club Ambassedor".
