Im signing this petition on behalf of Waids Restaurant and Lounge I have recently been made aware of Waids efforts to obtain a Drinking Establishment Permit that would enable the hosting of live music and dancing events.

Im writing to endorse this effort. As both a concerned community member and a patron of this business. I have witnessed the undue amount of police surveillance that occurs. The ceaseless and unfounded complaints are a testament to a few people desperate to stand in the way of positive change.

Waids is more than a restaurant. It is a place of refuge from the social barriers that exist outside of it. Waids attracts people from varying socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations and regardless of their race, national origin, age or gender people genuinely connect with one another.

Waid has a rule that no one is allowed to sit alone. He insists on this. He earnestly believes that the more opportunity we have to connect with one another the better equip we are to recognize the humanity in a face that may not mirror our own or the validity in a path we may not have chosen. And after you spend any length of time there you quickly fall into agreement with this philosophy.

This may sound trite and clichй but rest assured if you have were to ever come to Waids you too would witness an exceptional commitment to grace and kindness. In a time where commerce has replaced compassion and individualism takes precedence over civility Im asking you to recognize the influence of such a business.

There was a time that a neighborhood business did more than generate revenue. It tied people to one another. It solidified a community and created a space for a shared experience. The Central District has been hungry for a reemergence of such a business and Waids is that business.

Please approve his request for this permit. Thank you for your time and sincere consideration in this matter.
