The Urban Assault Show is one of Austin's longest running non-commercial hip-hop radio programs. For over 9 years, a collection of local, and now nationally recognized, hip-hop enthusiasts have take the helm behind KOOP's boards, giving central Texas a truely one of a kind experience. This year the Urban Assault Show has been passed on to a collection of highly motivated individuals who have been and are heavily dedicated to Austin's extraordinary local hip-hop scene. Upon this transfer, some problems have developed. Due to a technicality in procedure, KOOP has removed one hour of the Urban Assault's two hour show. The Urban Assault staff was stunned - to say the least - to hear of this decision. However, they have granted us a meeting to re-discuss this issue and the life of this program. We, as the staff for the Urban Assault, have decided to not just sit around waiting for someone to decide our fate. We know the importance of this show, and we truely understand its accomplished history. From the countless national spotlight features including recent and past interviews with hip-hop legends (ie. De La Soul, Talib Kweli), to the spotlight of incredible local talented artists (ie. Bavu, Tee, Element, Mirage, NickNack), to the dedication that goes on behind the scenes in the production phases...the Urban Assault has done its best job to give listeners an unbelieveable - not to mention, unique - experience that you will not be able to find anywhere...
We believe the Urban Assault is necessary. It's not a desire or a meaningless voice, but rather its a movement that defines many of our musical passions. Now it's time that this passion reflects action. We have created an online petition to keep Urban Assault on air Sundays from 6 to 8pm on 91.7FM KOOP. We also will be collecting names at our second local Austin Hip-Hop Showcase to take place this Thursday, Jan. 20th at Antones (details below)...
please sign up and help support the Urban Assault.
Thanks,
