I am writing to you because it was just announced that FCPS WILL recommend the closure of Clifton Elementary to the School Board. If this recommendation is accepted, that decision could impact your children and their future at Union Mill Elementary.
This is not just a Clifton ES issue. As a matter of fact, during a Clifton PTA meeting this fall, Liz Bradsher, School Board representative, unequivocally stated that multiple schools would be affected and boundary changes would occur to best meet the needs of various schools in our area. Specifically, she mentioned that there are 2 issues at Colin Powell and Eagle View (near Costco) that need to be addressed: 1) overcrowding 2) SOL scores. The proposal includes building a new elementary school at the Liberty MS site and all of our children could potentially be affected by boundary changes to shift kids to make room for the Colin Powell excess.
