SAY NO TO HAZARDOUS WASTE STORAGE AND TREATMENT IN YOUGHAL

ERAS ECO at present are a waste management company specializing in the treatment of sewage sludge from industrial, pharmaceutical and municipal sources. Up to 110,000 tons of non-hazardous waste annually. The plant is Located in Foxhole next to Youghal's landfill site on the shores of Youghal bay and adjacent to the beautiful Blackwater Estuary a specially protected area of conservation for wild birds and nutrient sensitive waters with a fragile Eco - system. Eras Eco has breached its EPA licence exceeding emissions of harmful pollutants daily over the past 3 years with no notification to the public on potential consequences to health and environment.Youghal has no waste water treatment facility meaning most of all the waste from our toilets goes directly into the sea untreated this coupled with the emission from landfill and sludge plant is disastrous to our health and environment. Eras Eco recently applied for planning to transport through our towns and villages , store and treat , up to 30,000 tons of hazardous waste at this protected area ? DO YOU WANT THIS ? WERE YOU ASKED ? HAVE YOU BEEN INFORMED ON THIS ISSUE AND ITS DANGERS ? THIS CANT HAPPEN !!!! 'DONT LET OTHERS MAKE YOUR MIND UP FOR YOU' 'THIS IS WHAT YOU CAN DO' - Write to Youghal town council , local representitives and Td's to voice your concerns about the proposed transport storage and treatment of hazardous waste Youghal - Ask what action is being taken to prevent anymore pollutants being recieved by The Blackwater Estuary and our environment ( i.e The lack of a waste water treatment plant ) - Ask why no public consultation was organised to inform the people of Youghal and surrounding areas of their proposals and assess the will of the people - Ask in writing for a copy of the lease for Foxhole site ( which you are entitled to under the freedom of information act) - Ask in writing has there been baseline Environmental and Health studies carried out on The Blackwater Estuary , Youghal public and surrounding areas before AVR and Eras Eco started operations ?Will a study be undertaken to determine the effects on our health and environment ?
