The New York State Legislature is considering a 'Merit Time Bill' submitted on February 1,2005. What this bill does is allow prisoners to earn a maximum of 4 months per year, 1/3 off of their sentence based on their institutional record.
Prison is no longer an institution where they help rehabilitate those who have made the wrong choices in life. Prison has become a place of big business for politicians and other public officials.
There are many high achievers within the D.O.C. Deserving men and women struggling to come home to their families and loved ones. The passing of this bill will help to expedite the process.
The government needs to know that our loved ones serving time have not been forgotten.
