STOP The Proposed Increases to Inshore Commercial Quotas for Recreationally Valuable Species

New Zealand's Minister of Fisheries, Phil Heatley, has proposed "substantial" increases to commercial quotas in inshore waters around large parts of the country. This WILL severely impact upon recreational fishing, and completely reverse the gradual recovery which some fish stocks have been making. This is just another ridiculous initiative in a string of ridiculous decisions by this Government with regards to this, and is based solely on money rather than the wellbeing of our country as a whole. Decisions are constantly being made on flawed science, and, even though what we have now is only a fraction of what we once had, our fish stocks will not be able to sustain this added pressure. This is purely a money-hungry initiative, and does not take into account our best interests whatsoever. The people who it will affect most- all of those who partake in and enjoy fishing- have not been consulted whatsoever, and we will continue to be walked over by governments until we do something to stop such changes.
