Support a Rowing Facility in the New Queen's Centre

Rowing has been the most successful sport for Queen's University over the past 5 years, with 2 OUA Team Championships and 5 OUA Team Silver Medals (men and women) accumulated during that time. In recent years, Queen's has also put 3 athletes (Kate Walker, Simon Gowdy, and Morgan Jarvis) on to the Canadian National Team.
In order to continue this tradition of excellence, a dedicated rowing-specific training facility with tanks and an ergometer centre is needed to compete with Western powerhouses such as SFU, UBC, and UVic. As well, OUA competitors Brock and Western have dedicated training facilities that give their athletes a decided edge through the winter months.
At the past Athens Olympics, roughly 1/2 of the Canadian National Team had learned how to row at University. Queen's has the potential to send rowers to the Olympics on a consistent basis, but only if support is given to these exceptional individuals.
If Queen's stands for Excellence, Queen's Rowing athletes should be the school's ultimate showcase and should be afforded the opportunity to represent their school, and their country, without having to worry about the support that they deserve.
