Dear Representative Holt:
Nothing that has happened in recent times has gladdened my heart so much as the good news that you initiated a move to ask the President to appoint a special envoy to help bring about peace in conflict-ridden Sri Lanka. You have rightly stated that the conscience of the world particularly that of the US was troubled by the renewed violence, rising number of deaths as well as a big increase in number of unsolved kidnappings of Tamil inhabitants both in the North and the East.
As the group of the US Lawmakers have stated in their letter It is time for the United States to provide global leadership to help advance peace for the people of Sri Lanka. The request that the special envoy should be a high level official with access to the President and the secretary of the State Condoleezza Rice shows your depth of feeling for the suffering people of Sri Lanka.
We only wish and urge upon you that you insist on the President to heed your request and appoint a special envoy as we have a genuine fear that moves will be ahead to scuttle this proposal.
I wish to convey to you that you and your colleagues have won the hearts of the Tamils living all over the US and all over the continent of Europe.
We thank you for your interest in our welfare and express our deep gratitude and trust that you and your colleagues will not lose any momentum in these humanitarian efforts.
