Canada's national anthem symbolizes freedom, peace and prosperity. However, is "O Canada" really how Canadians want to express themselves? It is the firm belief of many that while this anthem carries some special meaning, it does not capture the emotion of all Canadians. This is where Van Halen comes in.
The song "Jump" is the epitome of joy and happiness. What other song better demonstrates the feeling that all humans strive for?
Consider this. It's the Winter Olympics. Canada has, once again, made it to the final stage of the ice hockey event. You reluctantly stand for the opposing country's national anthem. Afterwards, you sit down again. Nothing special. Then something magical happens. "Please rise for the Canadian national anthem," the announcer says. You proudly get to your feet, and then "Jump" comes on over the loudspeakers. The next thing you know, Canada has won a gold medal in ice hockey.
This song is filled with so much raw emotion that Canada, a country with over 31 million citizens, can barely contain it. But we can, and we will.
