Traffic Safety For All

We respect the police officers of Oneida County. However, some of those police officers have almost caused accidents due to running red lights because they did not want to sit at them. They will approach the red light then turn their lights on and once they are past the red light, they turn the lights off. Many have witnessed this and were upset that the police officers almost caused accidents.

I have personally been affected by this, as I was traveling on Genesee St in Utica, NY in the left lane when a police patrol car went into the oncoming traffic lane at the red light, turned on the lights to go through the red light, then turned the lights off once they were past the light. The patrol car did not seem in pursuit of anyone as it maintained the speed limit, nor did it turn its lights on for the rest of Genesee St. When this happened to me, I was upset because it scared me due to almost being side swiped by the patrol car.

I think this issue needs to be looked at and resolved. From now on, I will be documenting when this happens as well as the number of the patrol car.
Again, I respect the police departments but this unnecessary passing through red lights for non emergency issues needs to be stopped. We should not have to wait until someone is killed in an accident for this issue to be noticed.
