This is a petition to have the ads put out by R&R Partners for an anti-meth campaign that feature a young person pulling out all his eyebrows removed from the television and internet, and any other media outlets it may be featured in. Although we the undersigned support the anti-meth movement, we are horrified at this particular ad, as we suffer from a medical disorder known as trichotillomania. This disorder causes us, to no fault of our own, pull out our own hair, whether it be on the scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes, pubic hair, and anywhere else we have it, leaving many of us bald and eyebrow-less. This is a disorder that is out of our control, has no known cure, and though many suffer from it, many do not know that it has a name or that there are others out there who do the same thing as they do. It is a painful thing to live with, and considering all the stigma that surrounds it and the many issues we have to deal with in going through it, we feel we do not need to have the further embarrassment of having those who notice us in our acts of pulling suspect that we are now on meth. We understand that those at R&R Partners were probably not aware of this disorder when they created the ad featuring the young person pulling out his eyebrows, and we hope that they are sensitive to the issue that their ad has greatly upset many of us who suffer from the disorder and remove it from all media outlets. We feel there are many ways to get their message of keeping people off meth across to the public, but that this particular ad, due to the sensitive nature of trichotillomania, was not one of the best ways to do this, and would appreciate it if they would consider other ways of getting their message across.
