Dear Madam , Dear Sir,
Being unable to stand any more terrorizing and brutality of the Communist Vietnamese Government, Hoa Hao buddhist followers decided to take the desperate action of self immolation to call on the world's conscience for help in intervening with the Vietnamese Government to free the innocent Hoa Hao buddhists who are imprisoned by the Communist Vietnamese government, and to return to them the religious freedom, the right to live a peaceful life.
Due to the request of Mr. Le Quang Liem, Chairman of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Congregation, they abandoned the idea of self immolation.
However, 16 followers who suffered from police brutality on May 24, 2006 in Lap Vo District Dong Thap Province decided to conduct a hunger strike at the house of Mr. Nguyen Van Tho in Tan Hoa Village, Lai Vung District, Dong Thap Province, since June 1, 2006, to protest the police's brutality as well as the Communist Vietnamese Government's scheme of systematically destroying the Hoa Hao Buddhist congregation.
The reason of the Communist government's scheme of destroying the Hoa Hao Buddhist Congregation rooted back to the Vietnamese Communist's murder of the Venerable Huynh Phu So, founder of the Hoa Hao Buddhist congregation, on April 16, 1947.
As Mr. Le Quang Liem, leader of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Congregation, revealed that there might be more desperate actions from the Hoa Hao Buddhist followers and that he will have to go to Tan Hoa Village on June 2, 2006 to visit the Hoa Hao followers who go on hunger strike, and since this is his duty to the followers he cannot back out even if the police attempt to kill or stop him as it has done to hundreds of Hoa Hao buddhist followers who tried to come to Tan Hoa Village to attend the hunger strike .
Recent Communist Vietnamese Government's harassments include:
(1) the May 8, 2005 detain of 12 Hoa Hao buddhists resulting in two died of self-immolation ,
(2) the September 26, 2005 imprisonment of six Hoa Hao buddhists, and
(3) the March 19, 2006 kidnapping of Miss Nguyen Thi Thanh, born in 1977, whose whereabouts is unknown .
Following are the names of six Hoa Hao buddhists who are imprisoned by the Vietnamese Communist Government since September 26, 2005:
1. Mr. Nguyen Van Dien, sentenced to 7 years
2. Mr. van Buu, sentenced to 7 years
3. Mr. To Van Manh, sentenced to 6 years
4. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong, sentenced to 6 years
5. Mrs. This Dung, sentenced to 5 years
6. Mrs. Nguyen This Ha, sentenced to 4 years
Your immediate intervention to help save the lives of innocent Hoa Hao buddhists is greatly appreciated.
Respectfully yours,
