We the undersigned as citizens of Evansville, Indiana, oppose the erecting of the proposed indoor and outdoor tennis courts and paved parking lot by the Evansville Community Tennis Association in Wesselman Park adjacent to the park’s existing courts. We do not oppose tennis. We are opposed to the location of this facility. We contend that the loss and destruction of green space which would occur should such construction be allowed is not acceptable and not in the best interests of the citizens of Evansville. The area in question is the last large open green space left in the park. We also oppose (1)the support and advantage to be given to a private business operating on public land; (2)city dollars paying the electric, water and sewer bills for said business;(3) the inappropriate aesthetics of a 43,000sq ft building in a beautiful natural setting; (4)The disruption of storm water containment which exists currently on this land.
