Home based business and the family operated business is a dynamic part of the American lifestyle and economy. As Americans we all have the right to make a living to feed and support our families.

Three years ago, a Federal Police officer/ National Guardsman and his wife started a small home-based business helping soldiers by pet sitting out of their home. They went thru all the proper channels to open this business, and had the okay by everyone.

Recently, the neighbors decided they dont want dog owners or a business operating in their area. (None of these people own dogs) The local dog control officer and codes officer agree that NO laws are being broken and the family is working within the law and providing a vital service to our nations heroes. This isnt enough; the neighbors have decided to petition the local town board to change the laws to have them shut down. To date not one neighbor has made contact with the family in person, or even with a letter, instead they have call the local codes and dog control officer filing false allegations of offensive smell and not a large enough fence.

The law that the neighbors are now trying to use is a confusing and contradicting statement in the village bylaws. Please remember you are allowed to operate a small business within your home, as long as it does not impede the flow of traffic, have a sign that is larger than 8 foot by 8 foot, or have extensive noise level.

Now here is that statement within the bylaw that the neighbors are using since nothing else has worked.

There can be no visible sign of business being conducted in a R1 housing zone

So what is a business sign that is smaller than 8 x 8 feet?

Isnt this a sign of business?

What about the 20+ other small businesses in this village who are conducting business in a R1 zone?

Please remember this is NOT a dog-boarding Kennel, but a small very small pet sitting service where the dogs are kept within the familys home.

Please sign this petition to help this family keep their business going, preserve the American dream, and MOST helping this patriotic family serve our American Heroes one dog at a time.
