Back to Counter-Strike 1.5

Dear Valve Executives and Development Team,

As you are probably aware, many of your loyal customers whom purchased either the Half-Life game and downloaded the Counter-Strike mod, or purchased your Counter-Strike retail version are having several severe problems with your latest updates. Specifically with the Counter-Strike 1.6 update and the newly added program entitled, "Steam."
While I am sure you are well aware of many of these issues, I would like to take a moment to list a few of the major aspects of the updates with which I believe most of the problems lie.
The first aspect of the updates I believe to be problematic and unsatisfactory to most people is the addition of the required Steam program. While a central program for connecting to servers and updating games is, by most, considered a good idea, as are built in friend and server lists, most users seem to have many problems with the Steam engine. One such problem is that the program seems to take an extremely long time to load, and after having waited for the program itself to load, you must then wait again for it to connect to the central steam servers, and then wait even longer for the program to load the resources required for the particular Half-Life mod you wish to use. While some users do prefer the central program over the previous game setup, most users seem to have the general preference of faster execution and connection over a central program, despite the organization that program adds.
Another area of concern is the actual update to Counter-Strike 1.6. After having played Counter-Strike 1.6, many people have found several problems with the update. One problem is that it seems to lower overall frame rate, regardless of the processing and video capabilities of the computer. For instance, on a certain computer running version 1.5 with a 1.67 GHz processor, 512mb ram, windows xp, and a NVidia Geforce 4 Video card with 128mgs of VRAM, the frame rate maxed out at 100 frames per second. However, using that same computer, with the same software configuration, the frame rate while running version 1.6 was consistently 30-40 frames per second slower.
Aside from the actual performance differences, many users dislike certain new concepts which were introduced into the game in the update. An example of these concepts is the newly added Riot Shield. Many users believe that even without the known bugs in the shield, the riot shield will still be a cause for a lack of balance in the game. Many believe that the fact that the AWP, which is designed specifically for piercing tank armor, is unable to penetrate a thin metal shield is absurd. While most realize that the game is not meant to be perfectly one-hundred percent realistic, many agree that the ineffectiveness of the AWP against the riot shield makes the game stray too far from realism. Most users do however realize that the development team is simply trying to create balance in the game. As such, some have come up with suggestions such as making the shield have armor points which are lowered when the shield is impacted. This way the shield can eventually be destroyed, and some realism is restored.
While we, the users and loyal fans, appreciate your undying attempts to perfect the great game you've provided us, we believe that the update to 1.6 is an unintentional step in the wrong direction. Because of the problems listed above with both steam and Counter-Strike 1.6, we request that the Valve developers and executive staff consider the possibility of repealing the update and required steam program, or at least allowing those who wish to continue playing 1.5 to do so by leaving the WON ID servers active.
