End the ambiguous Salt Lake county exhaust equipment law.

We the undersigned, being residents of Salt Lake County in the state of Utah, petition the legislators of the state to revoke the current law prohibiting the installation of aftermarket intake/exhaust systems. These aftermarket intake/exhaust systems are being sold and installed at many retailers across the valley. The laws governing these items are vague and ambiguous at best. The only true recipients of the fines are those that are between the ages of 16-30. When in fact a grand majority of people that own vehicles over the age of 10 years have some sort of an aftermarket exhaust system that when interpreted literally, would be in technical violation. This permits peace officers to profile this age group and target them for citation when no other infraction was committed.
We petition the state to recognize the 95-decibel limit under SAE test procedure J1169. We petition to make this the recognized county standard of measurement for noise emission on such equipped vehicles.
