Anorexia is a condition which destroys the lives of thousands of men and women all throughout the world. Currently, there are various "pro-ana" sites accessible on the net that advocate eating disorders. In these sites, there are forums in which anorexic or bulimic people can support eachother. These sites offer "tips" on how one can improve their starvation practices, tips on how to induce vomiting when wanting to lose weight, and pictures of stick thin models to make internet users feel fat and worthless.

These sites are often a trigger to people trying to recover from anorexia. Many lives are jeapordised by the fact that these sites are accessible to anyone who wants to visit them.

This is not an issue of free speech. It is an issue of public safety. If these people wish to post their sick crap about how "beautiful" conditions like anorexia are, they have the chance to do so outside the internet. But these sites should not be available on the internet. They are too dangerous, and are potential hazards to both those who are in danger of ED relapse, and those who have low self esteem issues.

Anorexia is a horrible and life-threatening condition that should not be trivialised or glamourised by attention-seeking people who think "thin is cool". These people don't care about the welfare of others, as they post more tips on a daily basis.

Many pro-ana webmasters argue that if someone doesn't want to view their site, it is simply a matter of control. Yet they fail to realise that anorexia is a disease similar to addiction, in which self-control is not always easy. Many recovering anorexics are weak and susceptible to opinions of those around them who are in similar circumstances, and lack the strength to ignore these sites.
