High Street Dress Sizes

Everyone who has added their name to this petition, agrees that high street stores are guilty of not stocking enough variety in the sizes of clothing that they sell. Time and time again, young women walk in to stores, and find the rails filled with sizes 6 - 10. The average dress size in the United Kingdom, is a size 16. Why should people of bigger build be forced to wear clothes that they do not like just because its the only thing that will fit? Occasionally, sizes 12-16 do appear on the rails, but time and time again, young women leave stores disapointed because a garment that caught their eye, was only available in small sizes.



This makes people feel insecure about their weight, leading to possible depression and eating disorders. We are living in a society today where pressure is put on young women especially to look thin. This can be potentially damaging, when emaciated celebrities in the media as portrayed as "beautiful".



To conclude, the main purpose of this petition is to appeal for more variety in dress sizes in high street stores.
