As students of Utica College, we respectfully request that the IITS department make a concerted effort to improve the student internet connection. As part of living on campus, we are constantly using the internet to achieve a variety of goals. Whether it be homework, academic research, or internet gaming, the ability to use the internet effectively is of vital importance.
Unfortunately, the internet on campus is not working optimally. Firewalls restrict when students can conduct certain activities. In years past, such a firewall did not exist. When the firewall is taken down at late hours of the night, the speed of the connection is reduced to a barely useable state.
We feel that it is not unreasonable for IITS to adopt measures to ensure a more enjoyable internet experience. If years past were firewall-free with a steady connection, why can this not happen now? Even if a firewall must exist, why must the internet become slow to the point of non-usability?

The internet can also be used as a vital tool for communcation with progams such as Skype and Eyeball. With this firewall shutting down all the ports people must pay for phone cards and such to communicate when it can be free with internet.
