Libertad para Henrique Capriles Radonski

Me dirijo a usted, para expresarle mi honda preocupaciуn por el injusto arresto del Alcalde Henrique Capriles Radonski, detenido desde el pasado 11 de mayo de 2004. Injusto e ilegal, porque hasta el presente lo ъnico que se ha podido comprobar es que el Alcalde es un preso de conciencia por hacer oposiciуn pacнfica y legнtima al gobierno del Presidente Hugo Rafael Chбvez Frнas.

Seсor Fiscal General, en mi calidad de ciudadano democrбtico, le hago un llamado de conciencia por el arbitrario proceso mediante el cual se mantiene injustamente detenido al Alcalde Henrique Capriles Radonski, contrariando el principio judicial que establece que toda persona es inocente hasta ser declarada culpable por un tribunal de justicia, pudiendo ser juzgada en libertad.

Seсor Fiscal General, debido a su alta investidura, asumo que tiene usted muy presente el contenido del artнculo 9 de la Declaraciуn Universal de los Derechos Humanos: "Nadie podrб ser arbitrariamente detenido, preso, ni desterrado".

Seсor Fiscal general, muchos otros compatriotas y yo estamos atentos al desenlace del proceso y confiamos en su actuaciуn justa e imparcial.

Mr. Attorney General:

I wish to call your attention to the injust and illegal arrest of Mayor Henrique Capriles Radonski, detained since May 11, 2004. He is a prisoner of conscience because up to this moment the only thing that can be proven is his pacific and legal opposition to President Hugo Rafael Chбvez Frнas government.

Mr. Attorney General, as a democratic citizen, I appeal to your conscience at the injust process which maintains the Mayor unnecessarily incarcerated, contrary to the judicial principle that states that everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law and can be tried in freedom.

Mr. Attorney General, I am sure you are also well aware of the contents of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which states, in its article 9, No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile.

Mr. Attorney General, many fellow citizens and I are alert to the ending of this process and trust your just and impartial performance.
