Milton Humane Society

Over the past few years Miltons growth has exploded which has made us No. 1 in Canada. We have grown from a population of approximately 30,000 people a few years ago to 59,000 in 2006 and with a projected growth plan of 106,000 people by 2021. Along with the housing explosion, we are also experiencing a boom in the business sector with businesses such as Home Depot, Wal Mart and other big box stores setting up business in our town as we now have the population to support them.
Milton does not have an animal shelter therefore all lost/stray pets from Milton are dispatched to the Oakville Humane Society over 40 km. away. If a pet is lost the owner will need to travel to Oakville to see if their pet has been found. The Town of Milton pays Oakville & District Humane Society approx. $170,000 for animal control. Milton now has the population to sustain an animal shelter and the monies allocated to Oakville for animal control would help support a humane society for Milton.
Petition:
We respectfully request the Town of Milton to set aside sufficient lands/funding to support a Milton, no-kill, humane society.
