Packanack School Parents for a Reduced Effective Class Size
Sign Now
We respectfully request on behalf of the fourth grade students of the Packanack Elementary School to not condense the existing four classes into three over crowded classes.
-Students, parents and teachers all report positive effects from the impact of class size reductions on the quality of classroom activity.
-Class size reduction in K-5 leads to higher student achievement. Student success as measured by test scores has been found to be directly correlated with class size - not school size, not teacher qualifications nor any other variable that researchers can identify.
-Students in small classes are less likely than students in large classes to engage in inappropriate behavior, disrupt the work of other students, and they have fewer referrals for discipline problems.
-The National Association of Elementary School Principals has revised its class size policy statement from a student-teacher ratio of 20 to 1 down to 15 to 1.
-Among teachers themselves, smaller classes is seen as the most effective way to increase the quality of instruction, above raising salaries or providing more professional development. Smaller classes also results in improved teacher retention.
We support the continued excellence from our dedicated educational staff and seek to keep our classroom size at a manageable number in the best interest of our children. Please keep the four fourth grade classes.
Sincerely the Undersigned
