We encourage the motion picture industry to release "The Phenix City Story" on DVD and to consider remaking the movie for today's audiences. This movie presents an important chapter in American history where a group of mobsters took over a small town in east central Alabama and turned it into what Secretary of War Henry Stimson once described as "The wickedest city in America". The story, in its true form, is more exciting than almost any that has been published by Hollywood "based on a true story" but has been very overlooked since Phenix City left the front pages of newspapers all over the world in late 1955 after being a front page story for nearly 2 years. A handful of the mobsters escaped Phenix City and set up shop in McNairy County, TN. The 1971 movie "Walking Tall" was based on this tiny sliver of that mob. If you can imagine a large military unit moving into a US city in full combat gear, arresting thousands, kicking out the local government and taking their place and dynamiting hundreds of buildings used by the mob, AND all being 100\% true, then you should consider this project.
